As the lead designer on the BGE Rad Mixtape project, I had the privilege of being part of a creative and collaborative team that came together to produce a unique and personalized holiday gift for our client, Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE). Our objective was to celebrate BGE's achievements and accomplishments throughout the year in a distinctive and memorable way. The team chose the concept of a custom mixtape, with each song in the playlist representing a significant milestone or success story.
To create an authentic and nostalgic feel, I did my research, including examining my own mixtapes and CDs, visiting local record shops, and even purchasing a cassette and cassette player. This hands-on approach allowed me to absorb valuable visual cues, and gain an understanding of the measurements, layout, and other design considerations. My design process involved hand-illustrating and handwriting most of the elements, using marker-like brush strokes to maintain the DIY aesthetic. I also incorporated BGE's brand colors and doodles related to their programs and offerings, creating a visually engaging and personalized design.
The project required a quick turnaround, with only two weeks to finalize the design, produce the cassettes, and ship them to 13 BGE team members in time for the holidays. Despite the tight deadline, our dedicated team of creatives, project managers, marketers, and production experts worked tirelessly to ensure a seamless process. I provided detailed measurements, layouts, and design files, and maintained close communication with the production director to facilitate the smooth printing and delivery of the final product.
The BGE Rad Mixtape was a resounding success, delighting the client and showcasing the incredible teamwork, creativity, and commitment of our entire team. The project was also recognized with two ADDYs awards for Direct Marketing & Specialty Advertisements and Brand Elements, as well as four Hermes Creative Awards. This project exemplifies the power of collaboration, creative thinking, and meticulous attention to detail in producing outstanding results.
